Change Murdoch Connection Final Plans – Less Traffic in Leeming

The State Government has decided on an option that will funnel more cars through Leeming resulting in 4,000 plus extra cars, per day, rat running through Leeming.

The Federal Government is funding the construction of the Murdoch Drive Connection to Roe Highway and the Kwinana Freeway. The project is a good project and it will give direct access to and from Fiona Stanley Hospital and Murdoch University.

The State Government is responsible for design and construction. The 2017 Concept designs would have put an end to many people living in the suburbs west of the Kwinana Freeway having to drive through Leeming to access the Roe Highway. This was great news for residents of Leeming and would mean that local Leeming roads would only be used by locals. This would make the Leeming community safer with less traffic and would without doubt improve the value of homes in Leeming.

Disappointingly the Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti has, after being influenced by a noisy minority, decided to remove direct access from Bibra Drive and Farrington Road to Roe Highway and the Kwinana Freeway using the Murdoch Drive connection. This means that those residents will be denied full access to the new road and will have to continue to rat run though Leeming to access the Roe Highway.

When you compare the 2017 design with the final design approved by the Minister, Main Roads traffic modelling shows extra cars on South Street and Karel Ave and 4,000 extra cars each and every day on Farrington Road through Leeming.

Minister Saffoti and State Labor Member of Parliament Yaz Mubarakai MLA have the influence to change this. We need them to know our concerns and we need them to go into bat for Leeming.
