Less Tests For TJ!

Many students have complained about the amount of testing at Thomas Jefferson ES, including STAR, SOLs, SGAs, unit tests, quizzes, and Benchmarks. Testing wastes valuable instructional time and doesn't provide a healthy learning environment for FCCPS's students. Why would kids want to come to school if they are faced with a staggering amount of testing each week? Standardized testing involves way too much of looking at a screen and answering multiple questions, usually 30+ instead of a quick pencil-paper quiz that shows you demonstrate understanding. The 2016-2017 school year has brought many new tests like the SGA test. The SGA test is fine standing alone, but it's supposed to measure our progress in the course of a school year. Doesn't STAR already do that? Perhaps we should get rid of one of the two, or another test.
This is a huge problem that has many students wanting to make a change, and The Bulletin's staff are some of them. We definitely need to eliminate a test to make TJ a less stressful school. If we win, then it results in a better situation for every student at TJ. If we lose, then at least we know that we have tried to improve a problem in our society. Even if you don't think this will work to sway FCCPS to our side, sign this petition if you want more time learning and studying for these tests than taking them. If it works, then you know you have helped everyone in the Falls Church City School System. It's really easy to sign and contribute, so please do! Thank you so much to those who are caring enough to sign a quick petition.
