Lephalale Community started this petition to Lephalale Municipality and

The electricity costs are extremely high, they don't align with usage and due to a third party utility provider (SPASA) additional costs are added onto the cost per unit charged, consumers have no way to monitor how much electricity is ACTUALLY being consumed and is at the mercy of our utility provider's (SPASA) charges.

[When we approached SPASA to query our billing they were unable to provide any explanation, we were then re-directed to the municipality who was also unable to provide comprehensive explanation]

As a consumer it should be a basic right to be able to monitor how much electricity I've used and to check whether or not my billing is accurate.

As an electricity consumer in Lephalale, the amount spent on electricity per week goes beyond what would be considered normal usage. With some users paying up to R1000.00 PER WEEK, this is not at all reasonable, or sustainable.

Metering units installed in the houses have gone past the 5-year mark without servicing or re-calibration.

As a member of the community and speaking on behalf of most of the community, we would prefer to have the middle-man cut out to purchase our electricity directly from Eskom or an alternative solution to be provided. At the absolute very least, rates should be reduced and comprehensive billing should be transparent and disclosed with meters installed for electricity consumption monitoring.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
