Greetings!  I have spoken with many parents and community members who have voiced concerns regarding the safety of children in Lenoir County Public Schools (LCPS).  As we know, Covid-19 cases are still on the rise within the community.  LCPS reported 64 new Covid-19 cases in the first week of school.  The following week 182 new cases were reported, which is almost 3 times the first week.  Although we are grateful the school board voted to require masks in all schools, this is not sufficient.  As with any rule, the rule is only effective if it is properly enforced.  I have personally witnessed students and staff not following the mask requirement.  This is not ok!  The safety of students, teachers, school personnel, parents, and our community is at risk.  Based on the rise in Covid-19 cases within the school system, we would like to see effective changes made to protect everyone's well-being.  We would like remote learning options to be offered. This could include fully remote learning and/or resuming alternating schedules with two cohort groups on the Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday model from last year.  This will reduce the number of students in the classroom, as well as allow students and staff to social distance.  If you would like remote learning options to minimize class size and allow for social distancing, please sign this petition.  Your support is greatly appreciated and can help save lives!
