Demand Valley Lake's sales office be sold as a commerical cafe not residential development

“The sales office located at 45 Valley Lake Boulevard was built in 2006 to assist with the sales of various stages within the Valley Lake Estate. Following consultation with the City of Moonee Valley, Development Victoria is now in a position to sell the sales office and adjacent land via an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. This will be led and overseen by Development Victoria. In line with the current zoning, the Expression of Interest will outline a preference for a residential development that provides a community accessible space.”

As a resident of Valley Lake I am outraged that the sales office which was initially meant to be turned into a cafe, is now being sold as ‘residential development’.

Valley Lake residents are not within walking distance to any local cafes/milk bars/general amenities (30 minutes to Causeway/Keilor Rd/Hoffmans Rd). This goes against Mooney Valley City Council’s Neighbourhood Community Hub Policy which states that basic amenities should be available to residents within a 20 minute walk. There is nothing available to us within walking distance, especially the elderly or those with small children.

There is already so much medium-density housing around the lake that it is taking away from the natural beauty of the space. Many of those with lake views will also be impacted should this go ahead. MVCC also intends to include a portion of the communal parkland next to the sales office as part of the development. At present this space is publicly available and used as a public reserve/garden/bbq area. We as ratepayers will lose the ability to use and enjoy this space by the lake. 

This affects every single person in Valley Lake. As ratepayers we should have a say in what happens to this area. We cannot allow MVCC & Development Victoria to sell this community space to be converted into more medium-density housing. As a community we are wanting a space that can be enjoyed by all of the residents of Valley Lake. We want what was initially promised when many of us purchased our land - a cafe. Please sign this petition to communicate to our council and Development Victoria that we will not stand for this deserved communal space to be converted into yet more housing.
