Residents in Trinity Lane (Hollycroft/Upper Bond St end), Hinckley and adjacent streets, such as Canning Street and Manor Street, often find themselves unable to park anywhere near their homes during the day and on returning home from work.
The street is also subject to fast, reckless driving putting pedestrian safety at risk.
There are a number of families living on and around Trinity Lane with young children who need to be able to park their vehicles close to their homes but are unable to do so because vehicle owners working or visiting the town centre/nearby college park their cars, often for the entire working day, to avoid paying for parking at one of the nearby car parks. This has been a problem for many years and polite notices in windows asking for consideration have not been effective.
The result is a congested and unsafe street environment for residents who often struggle to park in even a neighbouring street. The added congestion in a narrow, curved road, also frequently used as a short-cut towards Hollycroft Hill, frequently results in damage to residents' vehicles. The speeding often committed by drivers passing through is equally unacceptable as young childrens' safety is being put at risk.
Trinity Lane and the streets off it should be subject to a residential parking permit system, FREE for residents, between the hours of 8am until 6pm. Trinity Lane should also see a reduced speed limit of 20mph imposed to address the speeding issue.
Both are quite usual, common-sense solutions for streets in close proximity to town centres and are within the remit of Leicestershire County Council to grant.
