7 Days to Save the Southern Relief Road round Melton Mowbray

7 Days to Save the Southern Relief Road round Melton Mowbray
Why this petition matters

Time is running out to secure the relief road and we need your help to persuade the County Council to deliver the southern section round Melton Mowbray. We have 7 days to save the road!
On 22 June, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet will receive a report which is recommending they refuse to accept the £15m grant funding which would enable the southern section of the road to be delivered at the same time as the north and east sections.
As the highways authority, the County Council is responsible for delivering roads in Melton. Two years ago, they chose to submit a bid to the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund. They were successful in securing £15m which if they accept would mean the southern section of the road could be built with work starting next year. They have failed to agree the contract with Homes England and are proposing to give back the money which may mean the road is now never built. Having raised all our expectations, the County Council are showing a complete lack of ambition for our borough and we need to take action now.
We, the people of Melton, call upon the County Council to honour their commitments and meet their responsibilities, accept the Housing Infrastructure Funding and deliver the southern relief road for Melton Mowbray.
Please sign this petition to show the local strength of feeling and we will present this petition to the County Council’s Cabinet meeting on 22 June in the hope that it persuades them not to turn their back on our town, but to accept the funding and deliver the road.
Cllr Joe Orson
Leader of the Melton Borough Council
