Did you know that every piece of plastic ever produced, still exists?

Plastic bottle waste finds its way from the land into our rivers and seas, where it degrades into microplastics in which is easily consumed by fish, sea life and birds. Plastic bottles make up a third of all plastic litter found in the sea, and that if the current trend of marine plastic pollution levels continue, the tonnage of plastic in the sea will outweigh fish by 2050.

Approximately 13 billion plastic bottles are used each year in the UK, every day 700,000 plastic bottles are littered. This litter is taking over our towns, cities, and countryside, in which it poses a threat to wildlife, which eats or becomes entangled in it. Plastic bottles attract further littering and they have been found to accumulate more quickly than any other litter type.

We would like to decrease the amount of plastic bottles being used by using our own bottles, being able to refill bottles. We would like to request for a water fountain (or a few) to be placed in and around Leicestershire. Many cities offer this and have reduce the amount of litter on the streets, as well as providing water for all (It is a basic human need to have water so everyone should have access to it, including the homeless).

The installation of drinking fountains is usually the responsibility of local authorities, so if we can get some signatures to back up the idea, this could happen and how amazing would that be for our city? Please sign if you agree!

Lets make a change!
