Bedroom Tax: Non-Eviction Petition

Motion to Leicester City Council
This council agrees that with the incoming Bedroom Tax and Council Tax Benefits changes many residents will be under deep financial pressure.
These changes have been inflicted on the local area by central government; however this council has an obligation and duty to look after residents whom find themselves in financial difficulty.
Many residents in Social Housing may now find themselves unable to pay their entire rent and/or council tax through no fault of their own.
The changes by the coalition government are deeply unfair and a means to attack the very poorest and vulnerable in society.
This council resolves to be understanding to residents when arrears develop due to the changes to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and agree not to evict residents facing these circumstances.
We the undersigned Leicester residents and workers ask that Leicester City Council agrees the above motion.
