Supporting Healthcare Rights of Migrants in CBP Custody

Supporting Healthcare Rights of Migrants in CBP Custody
Why this petition matters
The Humanitarian Standards for Individuals in Customs and Border Protection Custody Act highlights a plan to administer initial health screenings on the detainees in Border Patrol and to ensure humane and health-conscious conditions for such detainees. It requires that CPB agents provide resources such as sanitary products, access to showers, water and food portions depending on need. Currently, there are no guidelines dictating how border patrol should be operated in regards to the health and safety of the migrants.
As of September 2019, 6 migrant children have died in custody at the border, with at least 3 deaths attributable to the flu, something that could have been prevented if a vaccine was provided.
By signing this petition, you are supporting this legislation and helping to get it passed. If passed, this legislation will institute policies that require CBP to perform health screenings and set humanitarian standards that these facilities must uphold, as well as inspections to ensure that the conditions for living and the health needs of the detainees are met.
