Maintain Rental Assistance Programs at Saskatchewan Housing Cooperatives

We, the undersigned residents of the Province of Saskatchewan, wish to bring to your attention the following: Most housing co-operatives in Saskatchewan will be nearing the end of their operating agreements with the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation in the next five years. At that time, rental assistance programs will also end, leaving low-income members vulnerable to be uprooted from their good-quality affordable homes.
The Saskatchewan government signed a bilateral agreement with the Government of Canada in April 2019, and the federal cost-shared funding from the Canada Community Housing Initiative (CCHI) is designed to prevent economic eviction for low-income people in co-operative housing.
We, in the prayer that reads as follows, respectfully request that the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan: maintain rental assistance to housing co-operatives through the Canada Community Housing Initiative (CCHI) and partner with housing co-operatives to reach the provincial goal of expanding 15 per cent of rent assisted units.
