As residents of Ontario we support Bill 97 and ask our MPPs to join us in supporting ONTARIO BILL 97 which will designation the month of April in each year as Genocide Awareness, Commemoration, Prevention and Education Month.

Genocide has affected the lives of many Ontario families and communities, including our own. We are descendants of survivors of genocide. We heard first hand of the atrocities that our grandparents & great grandparents endured. Ontario is home to many religious and ethnic communities, who have been persecuted in the past. The month of April has a connection with a number of genocides. The Jewish Holocaust,  the Armenian and Rwandan Genocides all began in the month of April.

Bill 97, "Genocide Awareness, Commemoration, Prevention and Education Month" has been presented to Legislative Assembly of Ontario by Honorable Aris Babikian, MPP. This bill will allow educators around Ontario to have the opportunity to teach younger generations about the horrors of genocide. It is only with awareness, commemoration, prevention and education that the wounds of genocide can begin to heal. It only with awareness, commemoration, prevention and education that the hope can prevail – the hope that these crimes against humanity are never again repeated.
