Beyond Black History Month: Putting Black History in the Curriculum Where it Belongs

PLEASE, SIGN THIS PETITION ASKING THE ONTARIO LEGISLATURE TO MANDATE THE REVISION OF THE ONTARIO (ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY) CURRICULUM TO INCLUDE CANADIAN AND AMERICAN BLACK HISTORY, AND THE THEME OF SOCIAL JUSTICE.

The horrific death of George Floyd and countless others, has brought to light that even now, in 2020, systemic racism continues to be woven through the cultural fabric of North America. Anti-black sentiment has deep historical roots. However, today, we see that North Americans are banding together, uniting against hate, protesting and using our voices to say "ENOUGH! Black Racism will NO LONGER be tolerated!"

Time and time again, research has proven that education, including having difficult conversations in a safe environment, is vital to effectively change racist mindsets and attitudes (Brookman & Kalla, 2016; Lemos & Crane, 2005). Let's start here, at home, in Ontario.

My children, your children, ALL children deserve to be embraced and thrive by virtue of acceptance, love and inclusivity. Our first line of defence IS EDUCATION!

Empower yourself to be an AGENT of CHANGE by signing this petition!
