Feryal A started this petition to Legislative Assembly of Alberta

Many areas in Mill Woods are named after Daniel Knott, a politician and former mayor of Edmonton, such as Knottwood Pre-School, Dan Knott Junior High School, and surrounding neighbourhood’s. But what is less known about Knott is that he was in close affiliation with the KKK of Alberta. The KKK rooted for him as mayor, and practiced the burning of the cross in honour of his victory. Knott accepted more than one request from the KKK to use the Northland grounds for “picnics” and anti-black rally’s, actions which portray him as a KKK ally and anti-black leader. Our community has grown to be more accepting since then, but to keep moving forward we need to take action and show that we’ve changed from our racist past. The locations named after Daniel Knott should be renamed, as someone who supports such a revolting terrorist organization should not be remembered as a good person. There are many black Albertans from the past who have left a positive impact on the province that can take his place, such as Annie Saunders, Violet King Henry, and John Ware. I’m making this petition in hopes to get the attention of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, so they can take action from there regarding the situation, therefore your signature would be extremely appreciated in order to get the Legislature to notice this cause.
