I created this petition in hopes that I can get enough signatures to persuade the legislators of Kentucky to legalize recreational marijuana in the state of Kentucky for extensive medicinal purposes, potential to increase tourist attraction, and create more jobs and increase the taxes that Kentucky earn from the sale of marijuana which will also increase the spending limit on improving communities and cities of Kentucky. This can help cancer patients, joint pain, and psychological illnesses due to its healing properties; there have been many tests that prove the effectiveness of the plant in its ability to help patients with their symptoms. We the people have the right to petition this plants legalization in hopes to not only improve our state but eliminate tax dollar spending used to house criminals in state and county jail due to marijuana; for those who do not know in 2016 there were a total of 8,697 arrests and 6,037 of those arrests were for marijuana related crimes. There were 7,600 marijuana arrests in 2018, the vast majority of which were for possession. In 2018, marijuana possession arrests accounted for 20 percent of all drug arrests in Kentucky and people of color are 9.4 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana than white people are. This legalization will not only improve our state in many ways but also decrease the number of black people in jail for petty crimes like possession of marijuana, so for that if you are reading this and thinking that you don't want to sign ask yourself if its ok to remain stagnant in the race to legalization.
