LEGAL PROTECTION FOR WHISTLE-BLOWERS IN WELSH SPORT
LEGAL PROTECTION FOR WHISTLE-BLOWERS IN WELSH SPORT
Why this petition matters
We call on Welsh Government to establish an Independent Body with all necessary powers to regulate, and scrutinise any National Sporting Governing Body, including Sport Wales, who fail to protect Whistle-Blowers.
Currently there is no such protection afforded to Whistle-Blowers if organisations fail to act in accordance with the standards set out in the document entitled: Governance and Leadership Framework For Wales, Building on Success. This leaves Whistle-Blowers at the mercy of a National Governing Body, and no ability to hold them accountable for their actions. Sport Wales have stated they do not regulate any National Governing Body and do not interfere in their operations or governance.
The formation of an Independent Body, with appropriate powers, will provide Whistle-Blowers the protection they deserve i.e. a legitimate basis to challenge, investigate and, hold to account, those who fail them.
Signing this petition will create awareness of, and protection for, Whistle-Blowers who take the brave step to call out wrong doing. It should also create an environment where claims of victimisation against Whistle-Blowers are independently scrutinised and, will provide a safer and more equitable Sport for everyone in Wales.
