Emily Bates started this petition to Leeds/Reading festival organizers

I enjoyed my second time at Leeds festival this year (2019) and had a truly fantastic time. It really is a unique and fun experience and I would thoroughly recommend it. However a real tragedy occurred this year as a 17 year old girl died from a suspected overdose. Now this news really rocked me, as I'm sure it did for many others. I couldn't believe someone so young had passed away somewhere that was simply meant to be a weekend of laughing with your mates, some great fun, and good music.

Now obviously I don't know any statistics or percentages because I'm not staff, but my friends and I noticed this year that there was considerably more young people around this year at Leeds. Who most of which all seemed to be drinking and undoubtedly having a good time...but with no supervision. As someone who feels like I can really use the term, "Been there, done that." I understand both sides of this argument but I can also now see that a young adults mind is still developing and maturing. Most teenagers don't have the understanding of how dangerous underage drinking or taking a drug that you have literally just bought from a stranger in a field is, because it's "just a laugh."

I've seen the security do thorough bag searches and patrols of the camp, but with the sheer number of people attending the reality is that drugs are very accessible. All I know is that I love this festival, I never want it to end. But I also never want to be there when something like this happens again, I really believe that making camping tickets available to 18's & over, who are older and wiser and can make their own decisions is the best way to safeguard against this situation again.
