Stop The Closure of The Green Residential Home

Dementia is an illness that effects the brain and causes memory loss, communication issues, mood changes and generally stops the sufferer from being able to make decisions from themselves. It is estimated that as of 2015 there are 850,000  people suffering from dementia, but unfortunately there is currently no known cure.

Late last year, my Granddad was diagnosed with vascular dementia, which is the second most common type of dementia in the UK. Unfortunately, as a result of this, he has had to go into a residential care home where they provide the care and support that he needs.

The Green Home for Older People is situated in LS14 and it is an amazing home for people with dementia. The home itself is a really nice place and has a very relaxing atmosphere for the residents. The staff are so very helpful, lovely and patient and there is no doubt that my Granddad is in the best place he could possibly be.

However, the home is being threatened with closure next year due to the government cutting costs. If the home closes, the vulnerable residents will have to find other places to live, which will ultimately cause them a lot of distress and confusion.

This petition is stop the closure of the home and ensure the residents are saved from having to move. The home is such an important part of the community and we need to protect the residents who are suffering from such an awful illness.

Thank you
