Labelled recycling bins on the edge of Woodhouse Moor, Leeds

Woodhouse Moor, Leeds, also known as Hyde Park is a large green space situated close to the University of Leeds. The general public, as well students from an array of universities cross the Northern city in particular, have been using this park for leisure activities for many years. Unfortunately, the mass of people that flock to this beautiful outdoor space are having detrimental effects on the surrounding environment. Litter being the most predominant environmental impact and eye-saw. As spring commenced and the sun started to entice people to the park, the extensive impacts of litter on this open space made national news headlines. The litter problem in Hyde Park has become difficult to ignore, and must be of prime concern for every individual, not just the conscientious. SCOOP Leeds are asking for large rubbish bins on the sides of the park with clear signs for recyclable litter. We believe this will enable people visiting the park, accessible ways of disposing with their rubbish. In turn, keeping the park clean and nature preserved. SCOOP Leeds have made this petition in order to show Leeds City Council and the University of Leeds the extent of the support this simple solution has to elevate the litter problem in our notorious park that everyone knows and loves. Ideally, these large labelled bins would be in prime placement at the top of Brudenell Road and Moorland Road. As the weather gets warmer, we plead that such action is taken to protect our park.
