Paul Chatterton started this petition to Cllr Helen Hayden (Lead member for Transport) and

Wyther Lane bridge is a historic crossing, and a great local access point to the beautiful Leeds Liverpool canal and the well used Sustrans Route 66.

But it is not safe.

The pavement isn't wide enough for pedestrians, visibility is really poor especially when trying to cross on foot and bike, and the road isn't wide enough for cars. New houses planned next to the bridge will create more traffic in the area.

On 15th March, there was a major car collision making the situation worse. A car hit the bridge and destroyed some of it. It's no longer fit for purpose. Now is the time for real change.

As part of rebuilding the bridge, we call for URGENT ACTION from Leeds City Council to make it safer:

  • create a wider pavement
  • create safe crossing points
  • install traffic lights to slow cars down
  • look into a separate bridge for those on foot, scooters, wheelchairs, pushchairs and cycles

We want a bridge that is a safer, more pleasant place for everyone.
