Annie White started this petition to Global Per Lee University

COVID-19 is still active, and as said by countless individuals, the safety and well-being of our university depends the actions taken by students and faculty.

Lee requires every student to take a Global Perspectives trip in order to graduate. This is not a bad thing in itself, in fact in a normal setting, it is good for students to experience.

This current environment is not a normal setting. We are still in the middle of fighting a global pandemic. States are starting to cut down on the numbers of people allowed at group gatherings, the UK just went on lockdown.

Yet, as students, we are expected to travel (which is not advised by the CDC) and specifically make sure that we interact with lots of members of that culture. In a normal situation, this would be great, but not right now.

Even the “individual studies” options put students at risk due to still involving larger gatherings and many different interactions that would not typically happen. Students could bring a wave of the virus to a church kind enough to let us do our study there. Vice versa, if one of the individuals we meet in the church (or wherever else we travel) has COVID, we risk bringing it back to campus.

As a school that is trying hard to keep everyone safe and minimize the number of cases on and off campus, is the global perspectives requirement really necessary? Is it safe? I don’t think so.

If you have felt/thought some of these same things involving this requirement. Please sign this petition. President Walker seems to be a kind and understanding man and I believe that if we got enough signatures to get his attention, he would consider this change.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read and support this petition!
