Naledi Mncedisi Mpotulo started this petition to Department for Education
- Teachers should not abuse their power. For example, learners should not be given corporal punishment because of the leader's personal issues or fun. Learners should not be beaten up simply because they got the wrong answers. According to the law of education, learners go to school to obtain knowledge about specific subjects. Ergo, why should they be punished for getting the wrong answer?
- African hairstyles should not be rejected! For example, dreadlocks and 4c hair are what defines an African child. Africans are all about the rough, brittle and tangled hair. What if I have dreadlocks? My forefathers identify? What if I have my neat but uncombed hair? Am African, I should embrace my heritage! It's all about going to school looking neat. My hair texture should not be judged. According to Chapter 2:Bill of rights.Freedom and security of the person. Everyone has the right to bodily and psychological integrity, which includes the right to security in control over their body. Therefore teachers have nothing to do with my hair as it is part of my body, they should focus on what they get paid for, which is to equip my brain. In conclusion teachers should not be bothered by our hairstyles as they do not disturb anyone.
