Why this petition matters

Started by jackie lane

For the past 40 years I and many of my friends have ridden the bridleway, Flash Lane, in Whitewebbs woods,Enfield. And for 40 years the council has continually let it fall into disrepair,so much so,that in all seasons it is extremely dangerous for even the more experienced horse and rider to navigate safely. With the fast disapearing open spaces and safe riding places for equestrians it is even more important for this bridleway to be maintained to even just a passable degree of rideability, especially for a borough of Greater London. It connects some large and long standing equestrian establishments with other bridleway networks, but sadly for many local equestrians it is "not worth the risk" of either riding the bridleway or taking the increasingly busy and dangerous road network to get to them. Please help by just giving a simple signature,it would mean so much to a still fairly large equestrian community. There are so many other pursuits being funded by our council,so why not ours?.

I have tried, myself, several times over the past 30 years to get the council to carry out some level of maintenance, but this has proven fruitless due to the nature of red tape and the blame of under funding being laid at the governments feet.

I have even enlisted the help of The British Horse Society in the past, but again, government under funding and the threat of losing our connected permissable paths prevented anything being taken further.

We now face losing the surrounding ancient woodland to an as yet unidentified leaseholder.Again,no information is forthcoming on who this may be.

I have asked local riders to write and email the council but these are mostly unanswered or the buck passed to other council departments, again the red tape!.

This will be my last effort at trying to get Enfield council to honour their obligations and help the riding community of enfield have a safe place to ride.
