LCPS: Don't Delay School Day

Starting at 8:55 AM and ending at 3:43 PM, high schools throughout Loudoun County Public Schools run on a significantly later schedule than similar school systems, such as high schools in neighboring Fairfax County. The school board has proposed to push back this start time to 9:10 AM, in which case the school day would end at 3:58 PM. This news frustrates many members of the school community, including teachers, parents, and students. If LCPS were to switch to this later start time, sports practices and other club meetings would finish much later. Ending practices at 6 PM whilst FCPS students end practices at 4:30 PM frustrates many LCPS students and parents. In Western Loudoun, many students live up to 30 minutes away from their respective high schools and would get home at an even later time. Additionally, many students have after-school jobs or other activities that would be affected by a later school day.
By signing this position, you express your concerns in regards to this later school schedule. The sentiments of the community will be expressed at Tuesday's school board meeting.
