Teachers and staff have declared that a new dress code will be implemented at Laguna Beach High School. This rule will dress code young girls for wearing mid drift, crop tops, shorter shirts/skirts, and more. The dress code targets young women, specifically female minors attending LBHS. Considering the temperature reaches 90 degrees in Laguna Beach, this new rule is unnecessary and ridiculous. Dress codes stem from sexism and are rooted in purity culture and rape culture. Girls should not have to cover up in order to evade unwanted male attention or advances. It has been made clear that the new dress code was suggested by a parent or staff member, which possibly makes this an issue of predatory adults as well. The students of LBHS will not stand for this.
