For several years now, the families that live in the District 15 area have experienced significant hardship in dealing with the Lawrence School District’s Busing. Circuitous routes that take hours, children waiting unsupervised for 30-60 minutes for buses that come unpredictably late (at best), or don’t come at all (at worst), phone calls and emails that often go unreturned for days and lack of communication between the  district, bus company, schools, and parents. This is a snapshot of what parents experience daily. The precarious busing situation has imposed significant hardship on our families, forcing parents to either drive their children to school  (sometimes even to multiple schools), or to rely on others to drive their children to school. The lack of consistent, reliable and safe busing is causing parents to miss work and other commitments while they scramble to arrange child care or carpool arrangements. Parents need and deserve the security of knowing that their young children have departed and arrived safely at school. We demand the Lawrence School District hire a bus company that provides parents with the reliable, consistent, and responsive busing experience that they are entitled to. As tax paying residents, we demand better and safe busing for our children.
