Students Moving America is launching the Equality in Virginia Campaign in support of marriage equality.
The Marshall-Newman Amendment prohibits the Commonwealth of Virginia and its political subdivisions, such as counties and independent cities, from creating or recognizing legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals, including domestic partnership benefits for same sex couples.
After the repeal of DOMA and Prop 8 in California, the time has come to enable marriage equality for all Americans. Students Moving America supports marriage equality and same sex marriages. The time has come for Virginia’s laws to change. It is time for students, Virginians, Americans to take a stand and spur the change that Virginia needs.
College students are America’s future. College students across the country understand the need for government to protect our freedom and assure equality for all Americans. College students across Virginia need to make their voices heard in support of marriage equality, in support of a more understanding America.
Students Moving America is an organization that works with progressive groups to engage, inform, and inspire students to become more active in their community. Through grassroots organizing and outreach, Students Moving America helps organizations gain influence within student communities by assuring their messages are communicated effectively to student and youth communities. Students represent the future. Students are innovative, motivated, and passionate but are often silenced and underappreciated. Students Moving America works to organize and harness the power of students to bring positive change and a better America.
