Lake Limestone (in Central Texas) was built in 1978 as a primary water supply for 2 power plants. Since then, it has become the water source for many locals and communities on or near the lake. Additionally, Lake Limestone is home to thousands of residents (many retirees), an entire ecosystem of animals (including migratory ducks, geese, and other birds), and hundreds of small businesses.

Neighbors downstream of the river that feeds Lake Limestone have recently taken issue with the way Lake Limestone is managed, blaming Lake Limestone for the flooding they experience on their river bottom, flood plain land: ignoring or dismissing data that clearly shows flooding is no different now than it was prior to the lake construction or how flood plain land is a necessary buffer for flooding events.

These downstream neighbors are demanding that the water level in Lake Limestone be permanently lowered: an act that would devastate the ecosystem, water demands, businesses, landowners and communities around the lake. No doubt they experience flooding on their flood plain land. Lowering Lake Limestone is not the answer.

This petition is to show lawmakers the support of the communities around Lake Limestone and other interested parties to leave Lake Limestone at its current level. Don't mess with Lake Limestone.
