Sasha Rappaport started this petition to LAUSD and

We, the Families of Aldama Elementary Dual Language Program, recently learned that LAUSD is considering eliminating one of Aldama's Dual Language teachers. We are strongly against combining classes into one larger class.

We are living in the middle of a world pandemic, faced with the most contested election cycle in our lifetime, with sick friends and/or family members. Many of us parents have lost our jobs or had our hours severely reduced. There are environmental hazards brought on by the California and Oregon forest fires. and political unrest throughout the country. Our children are not able to physically go to school, meet with their friends or extended family. They cannot go outside on some days because of the poor air quality.

Certainly this is NOT the time to create more upheaval in our children's lives by introducing them to a new teacher, new set of classmates or new daily norms.

Our Dual Language teachers have already meticulously planned their lessons for the semester, and done an amazing job of creating a safe place for children to learn for a few hours each day. Something that can be COUNTED on when everything else seems so uncertain.

Larger classes sizes, especially in a Dual Language environment, are never ideal. During this particular time in history, I believe combining two of the Dual classes will be detrimental to our children's learning and emotional well-being.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support of our children's learning and well-being.
