Signing this petition means demanding for more mental health resources than the ones WPI is providing for their students. With recent community losses there has only been REACTIVE propositions put in place. It is time to be PROACTIVE.

This petition demands for a mental health day to be offered each term for all students. Taking a mental health day would mean taking a personal day for your well-being with no repercussions in the classroom. To make this a proactive measure, when a mental health day used a counselor from the SDCC will check in on those taking a mental health day on the day it is taken. This is a proactive solution to assist those who have a hard time asking for help as well as prevent those from suffering further and entering overwhelming states.

This would require more SDCC counselors so those could receive help immediately. It is demanded to hire more psychiatrists to avoid months long wait times to receive assistance for chemical imbalances in their brain. It is expected to offer long term help to students instead of telling students to "seek outside help since the SDCC is not a long-term solution". Some students do not have this option. Stop refusing help to students and start taking responsibility for the lack of proactive mental health support at WPI. Our community has suffered enough to recognize what we are doing now is not enough.
