Students for Dress Code Reform started this petition to Dr. Adrian Talley

District 204’s dress code is sexist and misogynistic. The first part of the dress code states “Bare midriffs are not permitted. Prohibited shirts include, but are not limited to, backless, one shoulder, strapless, or thin-strapped shirts or blouses…Shorts and skirts must come to at least fingertip length with arms fully extended.” This rule specifically targets young girls in 204. How many boys have been dress coded under this rule? My guess, very, very little. People who wear feminine clothing are plagued with the responsibility to cover up their bodies to avoid causing a distraction to people who may be attracted to them.

With the change of the included excerpt from the dress code, we would allow girls in district 204 to wear what they feel comfortable in and we would simultaneously give district 204 a new level of respect by removing the sexist policies in our dress code.

Sincerely,

Students for Dress Code Reform
