Laurel County’s Unfair Snow Day Policies

Laurel County’s new policy on snow days is unfair to students, parents and teachers. Our students currently have their school day extended by 15 minutes, which was previously used to bank days for bad weather. However, beginning this year we no longer have banked days but the school day has not been shortened. Additionally the updated policy requires students to complete snow day packets when school is canceled. These packets are similar to surrounding Counties NTI Days (non traditional instruction day) but unlike those counties our students must complete the packets and make up the day, doubling their work. Our Superintendent and board members expect students to have a extended day, do snow packets, and still make up each day missed at the end of the year. This new policy is unfair, one-sided, and is not in the students best interest. Please sign this Petition and make a stand for the students of Laurel County. They deserve their banked time; if they do snow packets they deserve a NTI day. We have to be the voice for the students.
