Different from last school year, the option for remote learning is no longer something Kansas schools may use. The state legislature passed HB 2134, which prohibits school districts from offering more than 40 hours of remote learning to any student enrolled in in-person learning with a school district. This legislation went into effect on July 1, 2021.  It also doesn't allow parents to chose remote learning for their children even when they feel it would be in the best interest of their child.

Our communities have high risk children who need an education & remote learning was a great option for many families.  Many districts, even when active Covid cases are high, aren't requiring masking or social distancing.  Test to stay is being used by some schools, but masking doesn't seem to be monitored on those students who are "required" to mask in order to stay.

The effects of Covid long term is unknown. Masking compliance & social distancing isn't happening in many of our schools.  Majority of children under 18 are still not full vaccinated. We are asking the Kansas Legislatures & KSDE to allow remote learning through our public schools as an option for Kansas students.
