Did you know the Launceston General Hospital Maternity unit doesn’t allow Mothers who have just birth or who have a longer stay to see their other children inside the Maternity ward?

No one under the age of 16 is allowed to be a visitor on the ward.

Myself as a Launceston mother, I wasn’t allowed to see my other 3 children for a week in October 2020.

My children couldn’t meet their new siblings until a week after I was able to be reunited with them due to twin b being unwell and in special care.

I asked if you could walk my babies outside to meet their siblings and that was a hard NO.

I have suffered from postnatal depression in the past and felt I was extremely isolated while in the care of the maternity ward.

Did you know that at the Royal Hobart and North West hospitals, siblings of the newborn baby are allowed to come and meet their new baby brother or sister and see their mum?

So to make it clear my Husband and other children could visit me if I birthed at the Royal Hobart Hospital or the North West Regional today 3/5/2021 as well as another person, but not at the Launceston General Hospital.

While some woman may not want visitors it shouldn’t be anyone’s rights to make this decision or to take this right away.

How on earth is it ok for an AFL game to be hosted in our state, but yet mothers are missing out on this right?

Why are we able to travel International and Domestic but yet this is happening?

I know I am not the only mother out there that would be feeling this way.

we need to stand up and make a change.
