Last month the House and Senate voted to provide health care to 10 million American children. The cost would equal just 40 days of our operations in Iraq. President Bush vetoed the bill.
TODAY, the House will vote to override a veto.
Email Congress and urge your representatives to override Bush's veto. The fate of health care for millions of kids in this country depends on it.
On behalf of millions of America's children, I strongly urge you to vote to override the veto and reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Please oppose attempts to weaken the legislation by reducing the number of eligible children.
America's children deserve the chance for a healthy start in life. Without health coverage, children forgo the regular checkups and doctor visits that every child needs. Too often this leads to needless suffering from avoidable complications and costly trips to the emergency room that strain our health care system. Underscoring the stakes for millions of kids, a recent study found that uninsured children admitted to the hospital for injuries were twice as likely to die as their insured counterparts.
SCHIP reauthorization can answer the prayers of millions of parents and improve the potential of millions of children, but it goes beyond that. We all benefit from a generation of healthy kids.
I care deeply about the health of our children, as you do. Please join me in coming together for our kids by voting for children's health and against efforts to weaken SCHIP.
