Dani Brzozowski started this petition to LaSalle City Council
Problem
Illinois Cement has proposed an expansion to their operation in Dimmick Township, just north of LaSalle on E 3rd Rd. If left unchecked, this 432-acre operation will continue to destroy usable farmland, leaving “pasture grass” and man-made lakes in its path.

This is a short-sighted plan that favors the interests of IL Cement over the vocal opposition of LaSalle residents. By continuing to choose the success and profit of mining companies over the opportunity to build a robust and dynamic local economy, Jeff Grove and his City Council will be neglecting the long-term interests of LaSalle’s citizens and perpetuating a system that’s likely to collapse in the wake of the mining companies’ departure.

The issues are myriad: compromising local water sources; bare-bones reclamation that leaves our communities footing much of the bill (Rotary Park, widely regarded as a successful reclamation project, was a partnership between the city and Rotary and remains largely unpaid for); noise, air, and water pollution; health concerns related to limestone dust; the list goes on and on.

We’ve given inch after inch and the mining companies have taken mile after mile, acre after acre.

Enough is enough.
