Hello! My name is Rose Mitchell, I am currently a psychology major at UNLV. My goal is to raise awareness and to help put a stop to human sex trafficking in Las Vegas.
Sex Trafficking is defined as persuading or forcing someone to perform sexual services. Individuals of all genders, ages and ethnic groups are being kidnapped, brainwashed, drugged, and illegally traded for the purpose of reproductive slavery. Our home, Las Vegas, is corrupted with thousands of cases of sex trafficking due to our popularity for tourism and money. Last year alone, Metropolitan Police Department recovered 107 children victimized by sex trafficking.
We can make a change. Families, schools, religious groups, security guards, police officers, social workers, psychologists, those who work in customer service especially on the strip can all come together as whole and become well informed about the subject, keep watch for any red flags or possible victims, make school and work programs to teach prevention, and fund-raise to help fund emergency victim shelters. These shelters provide the victims with food, clothing, and a place to rest until their loved ones are contacted or they are found a home.
Below is a link where you can read about sex trafficking to become more aware, volunteer to help mentor victims or become a representative of Purple W.I.N.G.S. to spread awareness about trafficking at local community/professional events and donate to the emergency shelters.
Las Vegas may seem grand, but it is truly small. One tragedy can impact our entire community. Along with showing your support by signing, your signature is also a reminder to you to help keep our city safe, raise awareness and to help put a stop to human trafficking.
