During this global pandemic we are trying to find the best way to support our students as they continue to embark on their college journeys. At this time while we understand that for their safety and the safety of all our UMD staff, students and families that classes need to be online. The issue is that Out-Of-State (OSS) tuition remains the extremely high as well as in state tuition. We are asking that given the economic crisis facing our families and the education platform change to virtual and online, that OOS students be offered the In-State (IS) tuition and in state also be given a reduction.

With the campus shut down, resources limited, students displaced, limited interaction with professors, less opportunities to utilize UMD services, OOS students should be provided with the same tuition as (IS) students. All students should be charged the same tuition rate if taking online classes. Keep in mind OOS students could have opted to take a semester's leave, transferred to another less costly school or halted their education. However, our OOS students are committed to being a virtual part of UMD and will continue to for years to come. The OOS students have brought revenue and support for years past and will continue to do so. However, this time of uncertainty should be recognized. UMD should understand the OOS and IS students current situation and work to partner with us to find a balance that fosters future OOS and IS students commitment to UMD.

We are asking for your help to make a change so that OOS students are offered the same in-state tuition, and IS students are offered a reduction as well, other universities are doing. Ie. Ohio State, Rutgers and Binghamton. Please help initiate change!
