Livermore residents and dog owners want a lighted dog park option.

A lighted dog park is highly desired due to the fact that Livermore sees not only early sunsets in the winter, but also extreme hot weather conditions in the summer, where it only cools off at after dark.

From late October to late March, of the eight dog parks located throughout Livermore, none can be fully utilized due to the fact that no lighting is available. According to the LARPD Ordinance, it specifies that parks are open from 6AM -10 PM yet, during the above-mentioned periods, many of the LARPD facilities are left abandoned by residents because the sun has already set before we’ve left work or it is too dark when it has cooled off in summer.

Introducing Solar lighting to at least one dog park would provide residents a central location that could be fully utilized to meet the needs of many residents who need to give their canines the exercise dogs require.  Walks around the neighborhood, especially in the dark, with low street lighting, are not sufficient or always safe.

The Cities of Fremont, San Jose, Union City, Foster City, Merced, CA State Parks, and many more, all have at least one lighted dog park. With the large increase in residents, taxpayers, and cost of living in this city, Livermore residents can’t understand why we can’t get a dog park with solar lights.

We ask LARPD and the City to  research and investigate options to meet our demands to deliver a quality of life we and our pets desire. Thank you.
