Why this petition matters

Started by Laredo Martin High JROTC, Parent, Alumni and Veteran Coalition

Mr. Ruiz has established himself at Laredo Martin High School as a strong leader and mentor to all students at Martin High school. Mr. Ruiz has volunteered and helped teachers, counselors, and administration with many parent/student activities, curbside events, and graduations during the Covid 2019 pandemic.

As an English Language Arts ( ELA ) Teacher Aid, he has helped empower, growth and leadership among our ELA and Limited English Proficient (LEP) population. In addition to this, he is also a Volunteer with several extracurricular activities on and off-campus. As a Veteran, he loves volunteering with the JROTC Program training young Cadets for their Raider Competition, Honor Guard, and the upcoming shooting team competitors. His training in the military is a great asset to the JROTC program, which he offers for free to help those cadets succeed.  We strongly feel that Laredo ISD's leadership is retaliating, and punishing the Students, Instructors, Parents, and him for strongly advocating for the needs of the LISD JROTC program.

ADVOCACY should not be treated as a CRIME !!!  Students, Parents, and Employees should be encouraged to Speak UP for their rights and needs. They should not be lied to, invalidated, punished, humiliated, criticized, labeled, DISCRIMINATED, and or face retaliation by their own JROTC Senior Instructor, Superintendent, and Board Members. All students should be treated equally and have the same facilities to prepare for competitions and their future. There have been many temporary solutions already suggested and sadly they have been ignored to this date. Educational Equity is essential for every student's success…
