Joseph Kohan started this petition to Laramie county and

The Laramie County Community College plans to dissolve the early education program at the Children's Discovery Center for children under 2.5 years of age.  We need the community's help to show support for the incredible service the program provides for the children of Cheyenne.

The decision was made as part of an overall budgetary restructuring plan but as multiple parents have repeatedly shown to LCCC's President and the Board of Trustees, if the program restructures the fee schedule to align with current market rates the program will be financially sustainable and will not require subsidization from the college.

Finalizing this decision at the Board of Trustees meeting on November 18th will not only eliminate multiple faculty roles but will leave dozens of hard working families without care for their children - many families with parents who are essential workers working on the frontlines to ensure the health and safety of our community.

There are very few options for early education in Cheyenne, which poses a significant risk to the educational and developmental progression of the youngest members of our community. The LCCC CDC is the only school in Cheyenne that is certified by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  Cutting this program places a huge strain on the community and jeopardizes the ability of dozens of families to remain in the workforce.  We must convince Dr. Schaffer, Rick Johnson and the LCCC Board of Trustees to reconsider their decision and give the parents an opportunity to begin paying market rates to ensure the ongoing financial sustainability of the program.

The school does not need to close.  There are plenty of options to discuss that enable the school to remain open.  Simply cutting the program is not the answer. We need Dr. Schaffer, Rick Johnson and the Board of Trustees to work with the parents to find a constructive path forward.

Please support our petition to show Dr. Schaffer and the Board of Trustees how valuable this early education institution is to the Cheyenne community!

It takes a community to raise a child and the Laramie County Community College is turning its back on our children.

Thank you for your help and support!
