Save the publicly owned Urban Forest in Aldergrove known as Creekside Forest

Creekside Forest is located on the southern portion of a Township-owned parcel on the Aldergrove-Abbotsford border located at the 27500 block of 28th Avenue. This natural place, on the edge of Aldergrove, is on the eastern part of Betrand Creek across from Creekside Park. Having deemed the land to be surplus property, Township Council recently voted to rezone this property to allow for a sixty-one lot subdivision that could then be sold for redevelopment.
This would significantly damage the forest as an intact ecosystem. This urban forest has been used by residents for years and should be preserved as a community and educational resource.
News story for Creekside Forest
The aerial shows the tree canopy cover. It would seem important to retain areas of forest cover as they are vital to creek stewardship and habitat.
We, the undersigned, call upon Township Council to reconsider the decision to rezone and develop Creekside Forest property. We urge that the forest be kept in its entirety and be designated as Recreational/Education lands for the community to enjoy.
