Improve Accessibility of the Brookswood Plaza
Improve Accessibility of the Brookswood Plaza
Why this petition matters
Accessibility is an easily overlooked issue. Unless you have been challenged by a disability yourself, it's easy to not notice the ways that our community is inaccessible. When public places are difficult to access for those impacted by disability, the impediment creates frustration as well as a safety risk.
Unfortunately, the Brookswood Plaza has 5 sets of stairs that create a barrier for anyone who relies upon wheels to move around. Those in wheelchairs, walkers, or even parents walking their children in strollers need to move into the busy parking lot if they want to go from one store to another. This causes a safety risk for not only those going into the parking lot but also any drivers. It can be difficult to spot someone quickly in a parking lot, especially if that person is lower down to the ground, as is the case for those using wheelchairs.
Fortunately, the remedy to this accessibility issue is straightforward and clear. The 5 sets of stairs should be replaced by ramps. Ramps are easy for both able-bodied and disabled people to use. Thus, by removing this accessibility issue, we will be improving the safety of our community and making it a more inclusive place.
If you support the idea of making our community more accessible by putting replacing the stairs of the Brookswood Plaza with ramps, please sign this petition. Help us make our community an inclusive place for all.
