Lanett City Schools has created a uniform policy that is above and beyond reproach. This year's dress code changes and enforcement is disgusting to say the least. These children have no individuality, no separation, no identity. The parents are struggling to follow said guidelines while purchasing uniforms, with very little give and a whole lot of resistance. Certain belts, what's wrong with a black belt and a little glitter? Black, white or navy socks. Who cares about yellow socks? Undershirts with no writing. Why are you under their clothes? Restrictions on hair accessories. So my daughter's hair bow is stopping Timmy from learning? Shoes!!! Lanett doesn't even have a shoe store that would accommodate the ridiculousness being requested for shoes. In 2021, the shoe industry is making money off colorful shoes, expressive shoes and we, the parents are having the hardest of times, trying to find the plain, monochromatic shoes. By the way, they are more expensive than the colorful ones. There are plenty other things as well. Living in a poverty stricken area, no public transportation, these demands are outrageous and need to stop. There is a better way to have the kids looking neat, cut down on bullying and maintain a cohesive learning environment, than putting these kids in prison.
