Why this petition matters

Started by Cristian Garcia

This is a student petition for the Lane Community College Board of Education to reduce or remove the difference between out-of-state/international and in-state tuition costs. Lane Community College is a college with highly diverse students, including students from different countries.

The costs of colleges and universities are increasing rapidly day by day. There are different types of students with different types of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is the desire to get an education. Out-of-state and international students are currently facing a problem that is interfering with their education. In fact, non-resident and international students are paying close to two hundred more dollars per credit hour compared to a student that is a resident of Oregon. As a rule, international students are not eligible for any kind of financial aid or student loan in the United States of America. The high costs of tuition create financial stress for students and negatively impact their learning experience.

Financial stress may lead to:

  • Higher dropout rates
  • Poor mental health
  • Lower GPA

Students at Lane Community College are concerned about this issue and requesting your help. In order to ease the economic injustice that out-of-state and international students are experiencing, it is only logical to reduce or even remove that difference in tuition costs. With your help, we can support out of state/international students and demand a fair tuition rate for all Lane Community College students. Please sign and share this petition.

Thank you in advance!
