#13-0491 Deny approval of proposed development of 11-15 Leonard Street

The developer Steve Schnall is proposing to build a 9 story building (inclusive of a 2+ story penthouse) in the middle of historic Leonard Street. The modernist design coupled with the size and mass of the structure is inappropriate for the Historic Tribeca West neighborhood - there is no precedent for such an aggressive and oversized building mid block. If it is approved at this size and scale it would fundamentally alter the face of Tribeca and would harm street life on Leonard. Community Board #1 voted unanimously to reject this submission - but the developer has ignored this vote and is pressing on to the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

I support the efforts made by a group of our neighbors who have retained GoldmanHarris LLC to fight this development.  We are all supportive of responsible and appropriate development.  This building and its plan which is 30% larger than the plans approved by the LPC in 2009 is neither.  It is not appropriate nor is it responsible to our community.  Your vote matters - please help us and note your name and where in Tribeca you Historic District.

As a responsible citizen, I respectfully request that you side with the community and deny the request from docket #12-0491.
