Vote to preserve the Richard Haas Murals in Yonkers

This petition had 487 supporters

Internationally recognized muralist Richard Haas painted a 3 panel "Gateway to the Waterfront" Mural on 3 buildings in Yonkers in 1997. It tells a pictorial story of the history of the city. The center panel is under threat of demolition by the local developer who owns the building on which it is painted. A landmarks application brought to the Yonkers Landmarks Preservation Board asks the Board to protect the murals and the buildings on which they are painted.

The LPB will vote on April 1 to decide if the murals are worthy of protection. If they vote in the affirmative, the application goes to the Yonkers City Council for a final decision. A petition from primarily Yonkers local people sent to the LPB before the April 1 vote could help sway the LPB toward saving the murals, if they understand how strongly the local public feels about them.
