Save the Baxter House

The current owner of Port Washington’s historic Baxter House has submitted plans to demolish the symbol of our tiny village. Baxter House has stood proudly at the corner of Central Drive and Shore Road overlooking Manhasset Bay (see above photo) since 1670, but is now covered with deteriorating blue tarp as just the latest evidence of owner neglect.

Long before it was given Landmark status, the Baxter House was an important and historic gem, as well as a symbol of Port Washington’s role in the Revolutionary War.
