shannna harris started this petition to Anderson County Land Use Board of Appeals / Circuit Court for the Tenth Judicial Court of SC

The White Plains Community like many other areas across Anderson County, SC has outdated infrastructure (a busy 2 lane highway crossing/accessing major highways and an interstate with bridges built during JFK's presidency).

It has a lot of traffic challenges including ramps filled with potholes, 11 intersecting roads within a half mile, a school within a half mile and its already a major route for 4 and 18 wheels. Part of the challenge is because the community is one of the fastest growing areas in the County (both commercial and residential).

Wouldn't it make more sense to improve the infrastructure BEFORE approving a large travel center (like Buc-ee's insisted on BEFORE locating at exit 21)? BEFORE more 212k sq foot warehouses bring more tractor trailer traffic? BEFORE the half dozen subdivisions get completed?

Do so AFTER notifying all residents not just some? AFTER sending real information not ambiguous worded postcards that called the hearing a 'review' not a final 'vote'? AFTER allowing access to the traffic data that contradicted every first hand account? AFTER giving sufficient time and AFTER actually balancing citizen concerns with that of big business and tax revenue?

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (Highway 8 is State owned) and local government (approving all the new growth) pretend like there are no issues. Residents are stuck in between this tug of war between State and local government. Both of which are paid to represent the people.

Why permanently alter the landscape without doing a full environmental impact study in a watershed area? Maybe ask our first responders their concerns about getting around the 2 lane bridge during an emergency or the potential for increased crime that our law enforcement will have to deal with. Why not involve parents and school officials (this is the designated route for high school drivers going to our districts Career Center and its the school and work route for hundreds of families). Williamston, Pelzer, West Pelzer, Belton, Cheddar residents will surely be affected too from the added trucks that will flow to/from what is soon to be the home for the Transportation/Warehouse/Delivery industry. Oh and the Clemson fans aren't going to be happy getting stuck in more traffic than they already do, since this is a route for the tigers too.

If long term planning really exist and if like the Planning Commissions website says, they are really working to 'improve the lives of ALL county residents' then they'd PLAN to BUILD up communities, lives and futures, not add RV sewer dump sites. Though that is an accurate analogy from many who feel they're getting 'dumped on'.

If you wish to send a message about the treatment of communities across the county whose needs like basic roadways and infrastructure are not being met. Whose voices are being silenced. And if you wish to lend a helping hand to our lil old farming community with big problems, please consider signing this APPEAL.

With sincere appreciation,

White Plains Community
