Katy ISD is a wonderful school district, it offers many opportunities to students and teachers of all ages. Katy ISD has a program called the TWI program, this is a Two way immersion program found in 2 Katy ISD schools: Fielder elementary and Memorial Parkway elementary. This program puts together English language learners and English speaking students together. It benefits students to learn Spanish and English together in Katy ISD schools starting in the elementary grades. The program is wonderful and benefical to help our diverse young generation learn and grow together in the classroom.
The board wants to cut the program and not continue it for future students to save money because they say it is too costly to run vs finding a more cost effective way to keep the program alive . It is just upsetting that they can pass a bond that includes a new football stadium that costs 70.3 million dollars (Houston Chronicle, October 28, 2016) rather than continue a program that can benefit its youth in a lagely competitive world. Please send a message to the superindent, Lance Hindt, the President of the board of trustees, Ashley Vann and the Katy ISD board to vote yes on Monday February 26th, to keep the TWI program alive, and find a better cost effective solution to keep the program running as well as help it grow so it may be offered to more schools which will advance higher learning opportunities to Katy ISD students.
